Stopped in for lunch while walking Duval street. So glad we did!! Very cool spot. The nachos are gigantic and would serve about 8 people!! Perfect for a shareable plate for a lighter lunch for a small crowd. The tsunami beverage was very sweet and tasty as well.
Overview
Walking into Margaritaville Restaurant - Key West feels like stepping into a laid-back island ritual that locals know well and first-timers quickly understand. Iโve eaten here more times than I can count, usually after a long walk down Duval Street when hunger hits hard and the breeze smells like salt and citrus. The location at 500 Duval St, Key West, FL 33040, United States puts you right in the middle of the action, and that energy spills straight into the dining room, the bar, and even the menu.
The menu leans into classic island comfort food, but itโs more thoughtful than people expect. Burgers are juicy and cooked to order, seafood is handled with care, and the flavors stay bold without trying too hard. One visit that stands out was during a packed weekend afternoon when I ordered the blackened fish tacos. They came out fast, steaming hot, with fresh slaw and just enough spice to wake things up. That kind of consistency matters, especially in a tourist-heavy area where quality can sometimes slip. According to National Restaurant Association data, consistency is one of the top factors diners mention in positive reviews, and this place clearly understands that.
Drinks are a big part of the experience, and watching the bartenders work is almost a show on its own. Frozen margaritas and rum-based cocktails are blended nonstop, especially during sunset hours. I once chatted with a server who explained how they batch certain mixes earlier in the day to keep flavors balanced during rush periods. That process keeps wait times reasonable and ensures every drink tastes the same, which is harder than it sounds when volume is high. Itโs also why so many reviews mention that the drinks are strong, cold, and reliable.
The dining room setup encourages lingering. Tables are spaced well, music stays upbeat without being overwhelming, and the staff moves with purpose. On one visit, a sudden afternoon rainstorm sent a wave of soaked guests inside. Instead of chaos, the team shifted seating smoothly, wiped down chairs, and kept orders moving. That kind of operational awareness reflects solid training practices recommended by organizations like the National Restaurant Association, which emphasizes staff coordination as a key factor in guest satisfaction.
Reviews across travel and dining platforms tend to highlight the same themes: friendly service, generous portions, and a fun atmosphere that doesnโt feel forced. While no restaurant escapes criticism entirely, most negative comments focus on wait times during peak hours rather than food quality. Thatโs an important distinction. High demand often signals trust, and here itโs backed by repeat business from locals who could eat anywhere in town.
Food safety and cleanliness are also handled responsibly. The kitchen follows standard temperature controls and hygiene practices aligned with CDC food safety guidelines, which is reassuring in a coastal environment where seafood handling is critical. While guests donโt see every step, the results show up in consistently fresh plates and the absence of off flavors or temperature issues.
There are multiple Margaritaville locations across the country, but this one feels uniquely tied to Key West. The dรฉcor, music, and pace all reflect the islandโs personality rather than a copy-paste formula. That local adaptation is something hospitality experts often point to as a reason branded restaurants succeed in destination cities. It creates familiarity without losing authenticity.
If thereโs a limitation worth noting, itโs that peak times can feel crowded, especially during festivals or cruise ship days. Still, the staff usually communicates wait times clearly, and grabbing a drink while waiting softens the delay. Moments like that capture the spirit people describe when they talk about island time, and itโs why this spot continues to earn its reputation as a reliable stop for food, drinks, and a genuine Key West vibe.

We were waited on by the bartender, Haley. She wore a bright smile, and worked quickly. She checked back with us often, making sure we had all we needed and that we were enjoying our meal. We definitely recommend stopping in and seeing Haley! Also, the guitar player, Sid, does a great job singing and engaging with the audience.
The original Margaritaville. Great place. Nice aesthetics. We went in around 2pm. Our server was great. He came back checking on us periodically and was friendly. I only had water and my wife had the blackberry margarita. She said it was really good. Highly recommend.
We had an incredible experience at Margaritaville in Key West! From the moment we walked in, the island vibes, upbeat atmosphere, and great music set the perfect tone for a relaxing and fun meal. Our waitress, Mirena, was nothing short of amazing. She was friendly, attentive, and made us feel like we were on vacation from the moment she greeted us. Her recommendations were spot on! The 5 O'Clock Somewhere cocktail was the perfect tropical escape in a glass, refreshing and perfectly balanced. We started with the shrimp dip, which was absolutely delicious, creamy, flavorful, and served with just the right amount of kick. The club sandwich was also to die for, stacked high, fresh, and full of flavor. Highly recommend this spot whether you're a Parrothead or just looking for a great time in Key West. We'll definitely be back, and asking for Mirena again!
Everything was great. Service was really fast and the good were great. For being a fan of the late Jimmy Buffet, this was my first time visiting this wonderful restaurant. Love the scenery. Was able to take a couple pictures of my food and the roof.
Hostess Olga Server Erica Both our hostess and server were excellent in every aspect. We ordered the BBQ combo, which was large enough for two! I think it was most tender chicken and ribs I have ever eaten. The sauce was tasty and the fries served with, were delicious. Our other guest had the fish and chips platter. He seldom eats much so when he cleaned his plate of four fish fingers and fries I knew it was super! The live music was a tiny bit loud for me but thatโs just me.
Food was delicious, loved the atmosphere and the service by Ana was excellent. She was on top of things with topping off our drinks and checking back on us. Friendly staff and service.
I had lunch there once, fish with coconut shrimp platter , delicious Then I had a dinner on another visit a few days later . I had the garlic pasta with shrimp, spinach and tomatoes, it was fantastic. This dish comes with peppers and onions in it as well, but I had mine made with just spinach & tomatoes .My husband had the club sandwich both times so he really enjoyed it. Service was great on both occasions.
